The UK Government Data Standards Authority has now officially endorsed the Open Referral UK standard for sharing open data describing services.
The Open Referral UK data standard defines a way of gathering and using local authorities public services data in a common and consistent directory structure. This makes the data as useful as possible for service users, and people providing local services. Read more about the standard here.
The Local Government Association is hosting an introduction to the Open Referral UK standard for local authorities on Thursday 21st April, 2.30pm. Find out more and register for this online meeting.
The endorsement can be seen as a requirement for future central government open data on services to be shared according to the standard. It strengthens the case for local authorities to apply the standard when sharing data and to separate their databases from front-end service finder applications.
Placecube’s Open Place Directory makes it easy to collect, assure and share community services data, locally and uses the Open Referral UK standard. This means it’s easier for third party apps and websites to use the directory and ensures consistently accurate data for frontline users and applications.
